Crock Pot Recipe for Old Fashioned Beef Stew
Old fashioned beef stew is an excellent choice for a warm and filling meal during the cold fall and winter months.
It takes only a few minutes to prepare and placing it in a slow cooker for a few hours enables you to do other things
with your time.
Ingredients For Old Fashioned Beef Stew
- 2 lbs. of beef cubes
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- one bay leaf
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 1/4 teaspoon lime juice
- 1 cup of beef bouillon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons of table salt
- 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar
- 4 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup of chopped celery
- 4 potatoes peeled and cut into cubes
- 1 cup of fresh green beans or peas
- 4 1/2 cups water
Cooking Directions
In a large frying pan, heat up the vegetable oil over medium heat. Brown beef cubes on all sides.
In a crock pot or slow cooker combine the browned beef cubes, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce, onion, bouillon, pepper, salt, granulated sugar and the vegetables listed in the recipe. Pour in 4 1/2 cups of water and stir so that everything is well mixed.
Cover and set the dial to high heat and slow cook for six hours. Remove the lid and stir in flour if it is needed to thicken the stew. Replace the lid and turn the dial to low heat and simmer for one to two additional hours.
Yields: 6 servings
